Company History :

Théâtres du Monde was founded in 2001 by actress/director Fawn Wilderson-Legros following several travels throughout France, Germany, Italy and Cameroun.  On these journeys, Fawn experienced fantastic, wonderfully imagined, local theatre that was often performed in small towns and villages.  Very quickly, she realized that many of these stories would never be experienced by the rest of the world because of the difficulty of exporting and mounting fully-staged productions in far-off locales.

However, she had alway loved the Readers Theatre format because, here, production values are minimal, allowing audience members to  use the power of their own imagination to co-create the world of the story, right along with the performers!  In fact, after having produced and participated in numerous Readers Theater events during and after college and, several years later, at the Arena Stage Company, in Washington, DC, she was convinced that this dynamic, evocative performance style is practically taylor-made for Théâtre du Monde's mission of bringing as many stories as possible from around the world to be shared with local audiencess!

After the initial founding of the company in 2001, Fawn took what was intended as a brief hiatus to complete a Masters' in French Cultural Studies and Theatre, in Paris.  However, she ended up marrying a Frenchman and living in Paris, and so re-fashioned Théâtre du Monde as a French association (nonprofit) and produced several Readers Theatre events in Paris.  (They also offered 'Artists Way' and screenwriting workshops.)  Now, back in the States, Fawn and several colleagues  havere-launched Théâtre du Monde in Minneapolis, where it was originally conceived!  ... Still "Bringing Stories from Everywhere to Everywhere Else!"
